Pregnancy compensation pool
Any disadvantages for the organizational units are to be compensated by the compensation pool.
Funds from the compensation pool can be applied for in the following cases:
- Civil servants: for civil servants, the maternity protection period is not counter-financed by the health insurance fund as it is for salaried employees. For this reason, the civil servant's position is filled by the pregnant civil servant herself during the maternity protection period and a replacement cannot be hired. However, it is often the case that this affects study operations. In this case, the organizational unit can apply for a replacement.
- Laboratory work: If a pregnant woman is working in the laboratory, depending on the risk assessment, she must stop working there as soon as the pregnancy is announced. The pregnant employee will be assigned other tasks, but the laboratory results are usually required for further work. In this case, a replacement can also be applied for via the compensation pool for the period up to the start of maternity leave.
- Scientists who have the right to add the periods of maternity leave and parental leave to their existing contract in accordance with the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz and thus return after parental leave can also be financed from the compensation pool. This relieves the burden on the organizational unit, as the funds were usually acquired for staff on a temporary basis.
