Daycare centers
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) offers various childcare options for children from the age of 8 weeks until they start school. The daycare centers are located at different sites and are operated by recognized providers.
Enrolment
The service agreement regulates which groups of people can register for a daycare place. The prerequisite in each case is that the contract with the KIT is still running for at least six months and that there is an employment level of at least 30%. The following can apply for a childcare place:
- Full-time professors
- Civil servants
- Employees covered by collective agreements and above
- Trainees
- Persons admitted to a doctorate at a faculty and doctoral students
If required, there is a contingent of reserved places for visiting academics and the Presidential Board.

FlexiKids emergency childcare at KinderUniversum
Our FlexiKids program, the emergency care for short-term childcare needs when regular childcare is unavailable, you have to go on a business trip at short notice or there are operational issues.
Childminder referral
To bridge short-term, longer-term or temporary childcare needs, there is the possibility of finding a childminder. If required, please contact us personally and we will try to find a suitable solution together.
Scholl holiday care
For children of school age (six to fourteen years) of all KIT employees and students, the Equal Opportunities Office organizes year-round childcare services for all vacation periods of the state of BW.
Studying with a child
The Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe offers advice and childcare options for students with children.
Events for children at KIT
Every year there are several interesting events for children such as the KIT Children's University, the Science Camp or the equal opportunities programs such as computer courses for schoolgirls or Girls' Day.
Parent-child office
The parent-child office on the North Campus offers a work opportunity and at the same time a childcare solution. It is available to all KIT employees who need short-term care for their child or children. A changing table and a crib are available. There are also toys for different age groups and a play castle with a cozy corner.
The parent-child office is located in FTU building 101, close to the nanos! daycare center, outside the KIT's restricted area.
